My Name Is Amani, and I Am a Mother Fighting to Keep Hope Alive
My name is Amani Akram Abu Ouda, and I am the proud mother of three wonderful children Zain (12), Karim (9), and Sewar (6) from Khan Younis, in southern Gaza.
For years, we lived a quiet and simple life. Our days were filled with laughter, learning, and love. We didn’t have much, but we had peace, family, and dreams and that was everything.
Our small home was the heart of our world decorated with the children’s drawings and school certificates, filled with the smell of bread baking and the sound of bedtime stories. Every night, I would tell my children that if they studied hard and treated people with kindness, life would reward them.
Then the war came, and everything we had was taken away in a single moment.
WHEN WAR TOOK EVERYTHING
One early morning, before the sun even rose, the sounds of bombs filled the air. Our neighborhood shook with explosions. My children screamed as we ran out into the dark streets, desperate to find shelter.
Within minutes, our entire life was gone our home, our car, our belongings, our memories, and our dreams. The place where we once celebrated birthdays and shared family dinners turned into dust and rubble.
We escaped with only the clothes on our backs and the memories of the life we had lost. I still remember holding my children close, their small bodies trembling as the sky turned red with fire. That was the moment I realized that survival had become our only goal.
TWO YEARS WITHOUT SCHOOL AND WITHOUT SAFETY
It has now been over two years since my children have attended school. Their classrooms have been destroyed. Their books and toys are buried under debris.
Zain, who once dreamed of becoming a doctor, now spends his days helping me find food and water. Karim, my curious little builder, hasn’t seen a computer or a classroom in years. And little Sewar who loved to play school with her dolls no longer asks me when classes will start again.
They try to be strong, but I see the sadness in their eyes. I hear their questions “Mama, when will we go home? When will I go back to school?” and I have no answers.
As a mother, it breaks me to know that I can’t protect them from fear or hunger, or give them the simple joys of childhood. Every night, I whisper prayers over them, hoping they will one day know peace again.
Trapped, but Still Holding On to Hope
We have tried many times to leave Gaza to find safety, to rebuild, to start again but every path has been blocked. We remain trapped in a place where each day is a struggle for survival.
The conditions are unbearable. Clean water is scarce. Food is limited. The nights are long and filled with cold winds, drone sounds, and fear. My children often wake up crying, and I do my best to comfort them with empty arms and tired words.
Now, with winter approaching, our challenges have grown even more urgent. We have no warm clothing, no proper blankets, and no safe shelter. The cold seeps through the cracks in the tent where we sleep. My children shiver through the night, and I can only hold them and pray for morning.
How Your Support Can Change Our Lives
Your kindness can help us take the first step toward rebuilding our lives. Your support can give my children a reason to believe that there is still goodness in the world.
With your help, we hope to afford:
- Warm clothes and blankets to protect against the freezing nights
- Nutritious food and clean water for daily survival
- Safe shelter to shield us from danger and harsh weather
- Educational materials and opportunities so my children can start learning again
- Basic medical care to keep my children healthy and strong
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us closer to hope. Every act of kindness restores a piece of the future that war tried to take from us.
FROM A MOTHER’S HEART
I know there are many heartbreaking stories in this world, and it’s easy to feel helpless in the face of so much suffering. But behind every number and headline, there are families like mine children who still dream, mothers who still hope, and people who still believe in love and humanity.
When you give, you’re not just donating money you’re giving life, warmth, and hope. You’re helping a mother protect her children. You’re helping three young souls believe that the world still cares.
From the depths of my heart, I thank you for taking the time to read our story, for sharing it, and for standing with us in our darkest hour.
Please donate, share, and help us rebuild not only our home, but our future.
With endless gratitude and love,
Amani Akram Abu Ouda
A mother fighting to give her children a tomorrow filled with peace and possibility.
