Updating 3-24-20: #SmallBusinessRelief
Hello again Outsider Community - you really came through for us on this gofundme, and we are so grateful. Then the coronavirus COVID-19 hit.
The last 48 hours or so have seen a lot of changes for Outsider Comics and Geek Boutique. Today we want to update you as to how this affects the store.
Fist, Governor Inlsee issued a Stay at Home order to help fight out the coronavirus pandemic in Washington. As a part of that order, non-essential businesses - such as ours - are required to shut our doors for the time being. You can read more about that order here .
Secondly, Diamond Comics Distribution, a company that is responsible for the distribution of the majority of comics we, and other comics retailers stock our shelves with, has suspended receiving of all comics , effective immediately. We are talking to Diamond about this and next week's shipments and if we can still get them, but please bear with us as so much is up in the air.
How does this affect you? Good question!
If you are a subscriber, you can still get any comics you have in your box at the store now - we will simply ship those to you. Your subscription is effectively on hold until we have more information about when and how new comics become available to ship to retailers. If you have any questions about your subscription or comics, please send us an email!
If you are a comics fan and are looking for something to read, remember that we have an entire store filled with awesome comics that need forever homes! Now is a great time to delve deep into a multi-volume story, or to catch up on that growing list of titles you’ve been meaning to pick up and read. As always, we are happy to recommend books and cultivate an order based around your favorites. Send us an email and we’ll be happy to work with you to put together the perfect order to ship directly to you. We have thought up many ideas for deals on packages too - keep up with us on social media to learn more there.
Calling the shop right now is not the best way to get a hold of us, instead use our email address that starts with info and ends with our shortened name. (paranoid to type it here because, bots, etc.)

Hello Outsider Community,
Over the past three years we have built an amazing shop with amazing customers, who want really great stories about people from all walks of life and backgrounds. We have emerged as a queer space, have amazing kid customers too, and have gifts tied in to gaming and reading comics. We have queer and introductory D&D game nights. We love being a part of the Seattle Queer Community.
However, the bad news is that we have had a very soft Q4 in 2019, and a pretty abysmal January 2020. We haven't had a month this bad since our 3rd month we were open in 2017! So revenue-wise, we are down about $30K from plan. This isn't the way it is supposed to go!
So we are opening a gofundme for our community to rally and try to help us come up with our back-owed rent so we can stay afloat and get you those sweet new comics from creators local and global!
Our landlords have been great and are working with us. We also owe on our booth at Emerald City Comic Con. If this is funded, we will definitely keep on keeping on. We will try and change with the winds of the economy and what you, our community, need from us. If the gofundme does not work, you might see that we look for funding elsewhere, through investors or other creative solutions to keep afloat.
We are so grateful that you are here reading this. We will be so grateful for any help you can give. We'll list all contributors (if they want) on our website, and thank you in our newsletter (again if you want) for being so generous and supportive of our shop. We want to keep this non-drinking, fun and friendly queer space open for all of us.
