We are reaching out for a friend who has recently, and within the last two years, experienced abuse in their household at the hands of their co-parent. My friend is currently in California, but is originally from out of state, and has no family in the area. The child’s father has kept them hostage financially, and has also used physical force to keep her from trying to leave. It is for the best interest of my friend and their child to escape this situation, but are unable to do so due to repeated abuse. The child's father is now suing my friend for custody of their child, who is still breast-fed, and has spent the majority of their life with their mother. My friend has endured psychological abuse, sustained  physical injuries from domestic violence, was abandoned during the onset of the pandemic, and now has been legally barred from leaving the state and county, unable to seek the help of family and community in their state of origin.  My friend is in immediate need of funds for the ongoing custody battle that has ensued, safe relocation housing, and other basic needs.
