On August 28th, 2024, my mother, Yeni Romero, was involved in a life-altering collision. On her way to work, an SUV failed to stop at its stop sign and rammed into the side of my mother’s car, causing it to flip over twice and land on her hand. She was rushed to the trauma center at Mass General Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the world, and stabilized. Thankfully, she is alive, but unfortunately, her hand was so severely damaged and beyond repair that it led to her hand being amputated.
My mother is the strongest and most resilient person I know. She is an independent Hispanic woman who was able to raise three children on her own. She protects, cares for, and guides the three of us. I’m so happy that she is alive and well, but with the loss of her hand, she is at a loss. She will have to relearn how to live her life. So far, it has been the little things that most of us take for granted that are affecting her the most, such as opening a water bottle or a bag of chips.
We are asking for help to cover my mom's medical bills, living expenses, and overall help through this transition period.
