Help Xavier Protect Merritt Island Rotary Park
Donation protected
Introduction:
Hi, my name is Stephen Salaka, and I’m the proud parent of Xavier Salaka, who is working on his Eagle Scout project—a pivotal step toward achieving the highest rank in Boy Scouts. Xavier’s project is aimed at solving a critical issue at Merritt Island Rotary Park, part of Brevard County Parks and Recreation, by constructing 8 protective enclosures for trash bins. This initiative will prevent wildlife disruption, enhance safety, and create a cleaner, more enjoyable environment for park visitors.
We need your help to make this project a success!
About the Project:
Merritt Island Rotary Park faces challenges with animals rummaging through trash bins, leading to scattered litter, risks to wildlife health, and added maintenance burdens for park staff.
Xavier’s project will:
- Protect Wildlife: Prevent animals from accessing harmful food waste or becoming trapped in trash bins.
- Reduce Litter: Keep the park clean and visually appealing for visitors.
- Preserve the Environment: Limit contamination and protect the local habitat.
- Enhance Visitor Safety: Minimize animal-human encounters caused by trash foraging.
- Improve Maintenance Efficiency: Save time and resources for park staff.
How Your Support Helps:
The total estimated cost of the project is $4,500, which includes materials, supplies, and necessary tool rentals. Here's a breakdown of how your contributions will be used:
- Materials: Lumber, hinges, trash bins, screws, and other construction essentials.
- Supplies: First-aid kits, painting materials, sunscreen, snacks, and drinks for volunteers.
- Tool Rentals: Equipment like concrete mixers and augers.
If you can’t donate financially, we’d love to receive materials (e.g., lumber, hardware, paint). Every contribution counts!
In case excess funds are received (e.g. cost of materials lower, or material donations), outstanding funds and materials will be donated directly to the Merrit Island Rotary Park Nature Center.
Why This Project Matters:
Your support will help Xavier achieve his Eagle Scout rank while leaving a lasting, positive impact on our community. These enclosures will improve the park’s usability and protect its wildlife for years to come. This is not just a project—it’s an investment in our local environment and a testament to the power of community support.
How to Donate:
Please consider donating to help us reach our goal. Any amount is greatly appreciated! If you’d like to donate materials or volunteer, please contact us through Go Fund Me.
Thank You for Your Support!
Your generosity will help Xavier complete this meaningful project and contribute to the well-being of Merritt Island Rotary Park. Together, we can make a lasting difference for the community and the environment.
