Help Brooklyn Tenants Fight Unjust Rent Hikes
Donation protected
The 214-218 Prospect Tenants Association is raising funds to fight our landlord's predatory attempt to end the building's rent stabilization due to "improvements" allegedly made four decades ago. The end of stabilization could result in steep, sudden rent increases for tenants, who rely on this status for affordable housing. This includes tenants who have been here since the 1970s and 80s.
We believe the landlord's application is full of suspicious claims, but we need legal council to help us build a strong case and protect our affordable rents. Your donation will help pay for legal fees, including an architect's survey of the building to prove the alleged improvements rehabilitation did not occur.
We are grateful for all the community support we've seen for our campaign so far, including our own State Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie standing with our TA to demand the DHCR reject our landlord's application to destabilize our building this August.

Our fight is representative of a larger, predatory trend of landlords attempting to strip buildings of affordable stabilization status. Read more about our story and this issue in articles by Curbed and Vice:
