Help Wharfemeadows Park

Donation protected
Thankyou for visiting this page.

We are temporarily suspending future donations. This is following a recent update that there current meetings being held by the council to secure significant funding towards the upgrade of the park. Don't worry all the money that has been raised in this crowd fund will go towards this project and help repair and maintain Wharfemeadows park.

Thankyou for visiting this site, please find all the information below regarding this project, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me via this site.

We are trying to raise funds to support the upkeep and if possible, the refurbishment of Wharfemeadows play park. The park is visited and enjoyed by both the local community and many visitors from nearby towns.

It is well known that it is one of the nicest parks in the area. Unfortunately, there are many parts of the park that need upgrading or replacing, but due to current restrictions on funding this is not an option and the park could fall into further disrepair.

In a nutshell the council only have enough money for basic repairs. They may replace the odd swing here or there but if something fully breaks it will just be removed or decommissioned.

Colin Campbell the Otley Councillor for Prince Henrys Ward has informed me that the only way to improve or correctly maintain this area is through charity or donations.

All the money raised through this crowd fund will go to Leeds Council as the park belongs to them. Also due to the risk assessment and liability insurance all the work has to be done by their approved contractors. The money will only be spent on the improvements approved and not on admin charges or any other projects. We will also have a say on what improvements are funded.

What this will be will depend on how much or how little is raised. It has been confirmed following a meeting with LLC that the full cost to refurbish the park is £100,000. It is not expected that all these funds would be raised through crowd funding, but any money raised would help significantly.

Both Leeds City Council and our local MP have been contacted. We have been told a decision was made eight or nine years ago to in effect stop maintaining children’s play areas unless grants from a third party were available. Only basic repairs will be conducted.

The park needs your support to keep going, if every visitor donated the price of an ice cream or a cup of coffee this would generate enough funds to keep the park going for a few more years.
If you and your family enjoy and rely on this wonderful park, then please support however you can. There is not the funding anywhere else, so together we must do what we can.

The local council is due to have a meeting with LLC about Wharfemeadows in the near future, to see what immediate repairs are necessary and find out how much money we would have to find to carry them out.
Please be aware this is not a registered charity, I'm just an Otley resident who visits the park with my family and is dismayed see how poorly the park is maintained. I would hate for the town to lose this wonderful asset.
