Hello,

My name is Steve, and I am going to cycle from Hemel Hempstead (Herts) to Annan (on the Scottish border) for my wife Anna to pay a tribute to her Dad, who very sadly passed away in 1998 with a heart attack at the young age of 46.

I will be aiming to complete this challenging ride over 7 days, self-sustained with wild camping (tent only) and on a £10 per day budget. I intend to finish my journey on Friday the 20th of August, which will be my 46th birthday, in honour of Anna’s Dad.

When her Dad passed away, Anna and I lived in a dormitory in room No 333, and the distance that I will need to cycle from Hemel Hempstead to Annan is 333 miles.

We generally see people raising money for the big charities but very often we are blind to the people that need help directly around us. Although the inspiration for my trip is my wife, the choice for my charitable cause is to support something much closer to home. My neighbour. Wendy.

My neighbour is registered disabled and lives on her own with no immediate family around to help her. Having lost her elderly mother, she has been living on her own and without a functioning kitchen for four years. Her biggest dream was to extend the house for her mother and to make improvements to accommodate their disabilities. Her mother sadly passed away, but she made a promise that she would complete the work. Sadly, due to financial hardship, she is unable to do this in the immediate future.

Her space is now an empty shell ready to fit a simple kitchen, but without financial help, she will struggle to achieve that. This kitchen would improve her life enormously, and besides the neighbourhood, she has no one else to help her.

Therefore, in the spirit of being a good neighbour and to show an act of kindness at a time of someone's great need and vulnerability, I pledge to raise the funds to change my neighbour’s life and buy Wendy a kitchen that will improve her quality of life no end.
