Who We Are and What’s Our Challenge: We’re a dedicated group of Minnesotans who have come together with a heartfelt mission: to welcome an Afghan family to start a new life here in the USA. After the US withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021, many Afghans who supported our efforts were left behind. Their requests to come to the US have been reviewed and approved by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the US State Department, but they need our help to get here and begin their new chapter. We are a group of ordinary citizens participating in the Welcome Corps program to welcome an Afghan family in their first months here in the US. How You Can Help: To ensure a warm and smooth transition for this family, we need to raise funds to cover their initial living expenses here in Minnesota. This includes housing, food, transportation, and other essential costs as they start settling in. We’re excited about the opportunity to welcome them to the Twin Cities and are reaching out to friends and community members to help us raise $20,000. While some support is available at the federal and state level, your contributions will be crucial in helping this family thrive and make a successful start in their new home.
