Help My Parents, Lifelong Public Servants, Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa
My name is Solange Sinclair, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart for my parents, Wayne and Renée Sinclair, who have been married for 35 years and have weathered many storms of their own. They’ve spent lifetimes lifting others up; now, they need our help.
Just this week, Hurricane Melissa brought unimaginable destruction to Montego Bay, Jamaica, turning our family home into a watery nightmare. The storm brought devastating floods that destroyed much of the home I grew up in. A home my parents worked to build, brick by brick, back in 2008. Walls are water-logged. Floors are flooded. Furniture, appliances, clothing, and irreplaceable family keepsakes have been destroyed.
Why I’m Asking for Help
My father is the President of the Global Services Association of Jamaica, a nonprofit focused on alleviating labor shortages and creating job opportunities in Jamaica. He has spent decades serving the country and its people, and now he’s facing devastation of his own.
My parents have always given, always helped others, always made sacrifices so their children could have opportunities. Because of them, my sister and I were able to pursue higher education in the U.S. Today, I have a 6-year-old son who is incredibly close to his grandparents. Seeing them experience so much trauma is heartbreaking.
