**********
On the morning of Tuesday, August 6th my mother and I were met with what felt like a nightmare. Unexpectedly, my beloved father, Wade Minor died in his sleep.
For my mom and I, my dad was our rock. He cared for us truly and did absolutely everything for us. He was the best father I could ask for. The best coach, teacher, driver, motivator, and comedian.
Just like nothing can prepare you for the gut-wrenching feeling of losing a loved one, no one prepares you for the turmoil of confusion and worry that follows soon afterward of what to do. We have a mighty list of things to take care of, all which cost astounding amounts, especially in the eyes of someone who has always had someone who had it all figured out for you. No one prepares you for knowing how much it costs even for the most basic of end of life procedures.
Together with my mom we learn to pay expenses relating to: funeral home, medical, legal, burial, general bills, and more. All while I leave in 3 short weeks to college.
My dad took pride in everything he did. Whether it be driving his big yellow school bus, even if it seemed like it broke down every day. He loved seeing me and my friends at the various schools he would do trips for. My favorite thing about his job is that I got to see him at school, and sometimes would get the amazing surprise of him showing up to my softball games in his bus with a big smile knowing he pulled off another surprise. He took pride in teaching me so many things. He always pushed me to be the absolute best person, student, and athlete I could be.
My dad was someone who would help others any chance he got. It was shown in his dedication to Little League, Lake Washington Softball, and to anyone he could sense needed even an ounce of support, advice, or any whitty comments.
Just by looking at anyone who knew him I can tell he had a positive impact on whomever he would interact with. He was loved and appreciated by his students and coworkers while driving school buses, and while doing the various different trips in the luxury coaches this summer where he excitedly told us about his travels on ferries to orcas island, or parking on the sidewalk while driving for the Seahawks in Seattle. He planned on working 70 hours this week to support us, and my upcoming move to college. He worked so hard to support me and still almost never missed a softball game.
I know that right now he is still making jokes and wondering when I'm going to workout and go to the softball field next. Because even though he is not here with us today his impact on me will last forever and I will think about him every step I take.
There is a lot for my family to do in this next step forward and any kind of support at all means the absolute world to us. Whether it be a donation or sending love and prayers it will help us get through this dark time and relieve some of our stresses and help us move forward.
