Help vunerable women in Arusha, Tanzania
Donation protected
My name is Lola-May Williamson, I am nineteen years old and am currently working in a women's empowerment center in Arusha, Tanzania. The organization is called WEHAF and aims to empower and support women living in poverty, abandoned by their families, or struggling with HIV/AIDS.
I've seen firsthand the struggles that affect these women and the impact donations can have on their lives. Most of the women are living off a couple of cents a day, in tiny one-room mud houses, and without any electricity or water.
Last week, we visited a boy who had lost the ability to work or talk due to malnourishment and a deserted mother providing for her family of eight children. The need for help is shocking, yet the organization is running out of money to give adequate support.
We use donations to educate women on how to start businesses and to become financially independent. We also provide goods, such as food packages, mattresses and bed sheets, or cooking stoves, to those most in need. This is incredibly important as many of the women are living off one meal a day or are sleeping on wooden planks on the dirt floor.
Also, we do educational outreach and teach young girls about menstruation, HIV, and sexual health. At the start of my volunteering, I visited a school in the Massai tribe and gave out underwear, soap, and reusable pads to the girls. It was an amazing opportunity to open up a conversation about sexual health and help protect these vulnerable girls.
Even a small donation will make a huge difference to these women’s lives. They desperately need help. Anything that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
