Post 3031 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Rogers, Arkansas, is dedicated to supporting local veterans and creating spaces where they can heal, connect, and thrive. Our current project is focused on developing a community pond and surrounding amenities that will serve as a recreational and therapeutic space for veterans, their families, and the broader community.

Project Need
The initial groundwork for this project has already begun — a pond basin has been excavated. At this stage, the most critical requirement is water. The project requires approximately 3 million gallons to establish a sustainable pond. Prior to full-scale filling, a test fill will be conducted to ensure the basin can properly retain water.

Securing this water resource is not just a practical need — it is the foundation of the entire project. Without it, progress on accessibility and community use cannot move forward.

Project Vision
Once the water is established, the project will expand to create a fully accessible recreational area, with an emphasis on inclusivity and usability for all individuals, especially those with disabilities. Planned features include:

Accessible Sidewalk Loop: A paved pathway encircling the pond, wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility devices, ensuring safe and comfortable access for all visitors.

Wheelchair-Accessible Viewing Points: Areas along the path where wheelchairs can roll off safely and stop at the water’s edge, allowing users to engage directly with the pond environment.

Bridge and Fishing Piers: A small pedestrian bridge and multiple piers extending into the water will provide fishing access, quiet spaces for reflection, and opportunities for social connection.

Community Impact
This project will provide a lasting benefit for the region’s veterans, particularly those who may be homebound, in recovery, or facing mobility challenges. The pond and its surrounding amenities will offer:

Therapeutic outdoor engagement for veterans struggling with PTSD, anxiety, or isolation.

Opportunities for family gatherings and intergenerational activities that strengthen community bonds.

Inclusive access to nature for individuals of all abilities, reinforcing dignity, independence, and belonging.

Funding Request
We respectfully request funding support to meet the immediate need for establishing the water source and to continue development of the accessibility features outlined above. With your support, this project will transform a simple pond into a welcoming sanctuary of healing, recreation, and community connection for veterans and their families for years to come.
