The Veterans Recovery Network (“VRN”) is looking to raise monies to expand the innovation program initially launched by VAMC Richmond in 2020. In August 2023, VAMC authorized Veterans Recovery Network Inc., a non-profit organization, to manage VRN program activities and fulfillment, which includes expansion of VRN program awareness and training among VA Health personnel and VA-affiliated nongovernmental organizations throughout the U.S. In addition, VRN will expand its peer-to-peer solutions to provide online and in-person meetings for addiction disorder and PTSD and is opening an inpatient treatment center for military veterans seeking treatment for alcohol and substance abuse.

This crowdfunding campaign will generate enough money in contributions to continue VRN awareness programs and purchase and distribute VRN promotional, member, and training materials. Additionally, VRN seeks funding to open the Veterans Recovery Network Treatment Center in Pohnpei State, Federated States of Micronesia. This facility will serve as an inpatient treatment center for U.S. military veterans and transitioning service men and women who seek recovery from alcohol and drug abuse.
Summary of VRN Program Charters.
A. Program Awareness Events (Near participating VAMCs in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii).
Brief Description: VRN awareness events held at a veterans organization in Oahu in a cooperative with Honolulu VAMC (e.g., American Legion), which shall copy the VRN’s first awareness event held in Virginia).
Objective: Recruit new VRN program facilitators, meeting coordinators, and educate VA Health personnel on VRN Program, and meet with affiliated NGOs.
Cost: $8,400.00
B. VRN Treatment Center (Kolonia, Pohnpei, FM 96941).
Brief Description: VRN treatment center for veterans eligible for VA Community Care assistance. Veterans and transitioning service men/women will reside at the treatment center in the U.S.-allied state of Micronesia for 90-180 days to receive mental health treatment for alcohol or drug abuse. The average cost per patient is around $75 per day for residency, food, transportation, treatment, and other program-related expenses. The VRN has a rental agreement for two floors of living space (approx. 12000 sqft) to house up to 60 patients in a dorm-style setting. (See photos of rental property). Operating this treatment center in Micronesia makes operating, living, and staffing costs more efficient than running within the mainland U.S.
Objective: Help military veterans recover from addiction disorders in a setting that poses no risk of relapsing or getting access to controlled substances or contact with negative influences that trigger addictive behavior. VRN Inc. intends to internally fund the launch of this program with a handful of patients referred by VAMC. Over time, it is anticipated that the VA, HHS, DoD, and Congress will provide more financial support to the expansion of VRN’s treatment center, whether that be renting more space within the building where the VRN treatment center is located or building a (much larger) new treatment center within the 3-acre lot space available now through the same landlord. VRN plans to open the treatment center to patients by February 2024.
Cost: $38,000.00
C. VRN Administrative Expenses.
Brief Description: Repayment of personal loans taken out by VRN principals; cash on hand for abrupt operating expenses; monthly service subscription fees; account and legal services, and governmental filing fees.
Objective: Eliminate all debts held by VRN officials, pay bills timely, and have a small amount of cash on hand until financial aid assistance is received (e.g., federal grants, DAF donations, private grants and contributions).
Cost: $9,500.00
TOTAL AMOUNT SOUGHT: $55,900
