Did you know that roughly 17 veterans take their own lives each day? That's about 6,407 lives each year and 64,070 lives over the course of a decade. This tragic decision is often made due to mental and physical health issues, unemployment, and a lack of social reintegration. That’s why when my school gave us students the option to help our local veterans' home by donating or raising money, I knew I had to raise as much money as possible for the home.
Charlotte Hall Veterans Home provides veterans and their spouses with essential long-term nursing, memory care, and assisted living care. Charlotte Hall’s motto is “Serving Those Who Served,” which they have proven time and time again.
Mental and physical issues can have a significant impact on a person's life. Money donated will go to various merrymaking activities in and out of the home. With the constant smiles from the staff and super fun activities, veterans and their spouses may be able to heal.
Another resource your donation will help is dental and optometry needs. Dental care is so important, especially as people age. Taking care of this may prevent systemic diseases, tooth loss, and the risk of decay, and maintain nutrition. Systemic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease are strongly related to eye health problems. Donating towards optometry needs will help to enhance veterans and their spouses quality of life by promoting physical health, ensuring safety, and supporting mental and emotional well-being.
Finally, donations play a big role in Final Honors arrangements. Final Honors ceremonies help families process their loss by shared memories and respect for their wishes, and most importantly, honor the veterans' sacrifice to our country. It provides a sense of closure and validates their life’s impact. They acknowledge a person's unique story and contributions, fostering emotional well-being for both the individual being honored and the families, and allow for a meaningful farewell.
So, if you feel this is a cause you would like to support, please donate. All earnings will go straight to my local veterans home, Charlotte Hall, to be used for life-changing services. Thank you.
