Help a vet build a home for his family

This fundraiser is to help a young disabled veteran build a home, which he is doing largely on his own with some help from family and friends.
Josh is my son, and is a disabled combat vet as well as a new father. He has a parcel of land in Park County, Colorado, where he has started construction on an Earthship home for his wife and young child. His disabilities don’t prevent him from working on his home, but it does hold some challenges.
Making progress on the Earthship has been slower and more difficult than expected, everything from the county permitting process to locating and transporting needed material. And Josh is often a one-man construction crew.
An Earthship is a largely solar-powered home built with conventional and re-purposed material. Much of the work right now is just hard labor, pounding dirt into hundreds of tires to create the foundation. You can see more about what an Earthship is all about here: Earthship
The funds raised here will go directly to keeping construction underway, which is currently focused on digging the septic system area and building up the foundation walls (dirt-filled tires).

The first step was to scrape a level building site. This was harder than you might think!
Once level, the first tires were placed to begin the foundation.
Huge rolls of plastic create the vapor barrier for the foundation. Then it was time to start filling tires with dirt.
Josh works at the site every day when weather permits.
Grateful to Josh's brother Daniel, uncle Tom, and friends who helped pack a few tires on a summer work day. A pneumatic tamper helps ensure solid tires.
The foundation on the north side will be eight tires high with dirt built up behind them. The angle of the home will maximize winter sun.
