Help Veronicah Finish Her Divorce Strong

Hello friends,

I’m Veronicah. After nearly 3 years in the divorce process, I am asking for your help.

I need to call on my community and my connections to crowd fund the final stages of my divorce.

I am raising $35,000 to go towards:

-$5,000 for my own financial expert to comment and testify on the financial report produced by my ex

-$5,000 to pay back my aunt who helped me with the 2022 custody trial according to our agreement

-$25,000 to come even with my lawyer and be able to pay her for the upcoming negotiations/ trial.

For those of you who don’t know, I was a stay at home mom for the most part for 10 years.

When I became unsure of my ex’s ability to stay alive, I went back to school so I would be able to support myself and our 2 kids if the worst happened. I lost those years of career development and now he wants to not pay me any spousal support at all.

I simply cannot make it without any support while I grow my earning ability and frankly I shouldn’t have to.

My former husband has out spent me by nearly 3x throughout this divorce process. Due to his long history of substance abuse and emotional abuse of our family, I respected my children’s wishes to not live on a 50/50 custody schedule with him which resulted in a 3 day custody trial in 2022.

My ex has been able to borrow huge sums of money from his parents and employers. I have also borrowed very modest sums from my one aunt that has any means to help. I took my bonus from December and used nearly all of it to pay her back a third of what I owe her.

The last “offer” in mediation from my ex husband of 12 years was to zero out my spousal support because of the money he says I owe him from when we lived together, but were on paper separated.

The court mediator told my ex that he did not know a judge in San Diego county that would award my ex the money he thinks I owe him, but my ex did not change his position.

Now I am faced with spending an additional $5,000 to retain a financial expert to counter my ex’s $10,000 expert.

I learned the hard way with the custody trial that my own testimony and calculations hardly count at all. I have already done a lot of work myself in my case with the guidance of my lawyer.

I have done my own discovery and review of financial reports produced by my ex where I found thousands of dollars labeled “unknown” deposits which were my deposits etc. Despite being very conservative with my lawyer’s time, she has still been paid nearly $40,000 for this case and I am paying $750 a month in payments to her for the additional several thousand dollars already owed. My ex has spent at least $150,000 fighting me.

If each connection I have online gifted me $20, I would be able to hit even with the financial expert and what I owe my lawyer. If all of THEIR connections gave $5-10, I would be able to pay my family back and meet him on equal footing for the future.

At this point, I can and will ask for him to pay additional lawyers fees, but those have been about 1/4 of what I need and also in the end those funds impact my kids on both sides.

They are the ones I want to center in the conversation. I need to be able to provide a relatively safe and comfortable home for them within distance of their current schools, friends, and support systems. They have been through enough.
