Help to build an albergue for pilgrims in Spain

"Betania" is a Cultural Centre for pilgrims on the Way of St. James of Compostela, carried out by Elena, Pablo and Margarita, three young volunteers from Italy, Germany and Belarus. The project is supported by the Leonardino Cultural Association and it proposes activities like "Un café x un cuento " as well as cultural events called "europinchos" for pilgrims and people from Pamplona.

 

The Centre occupies a part of the Convent of the Recollects of Pamplona and consists of three floors, for a total of ~390 square metres. Thanks to small donations and to the work started in May 2021, which is done almost exclusively by volunteers, we have just finished the renovation of the apartment for the volunteer staff. They are already living there, therefore being able to develop the project every day.

 

As soon as the renovation work is finished, Betania will also have a centre of information about the Camino and a shelter where those who do the Camino will feel like home.

 

The next step we want to take in order to achieve this goal is the renovation of the upper floor of approximately 200 square metres, where we hope to create the “albergue”. As you can see in the attached project design, it will consist of 4 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room and 2 bathrooms.

 

Before the volunteers start painting the walls and the furniture of the building, it is necessary to hire a team of experts to carry out the work required for an optimal result, as it is described in the attached budget. Among them: wall repairs and wall insulation, heating and electrical installations throughout the entire floor and complete renovation of the bathrooms.

 

This new “albergue“ in the heart of Pamplona aims to be a place where pilgrims on the Camino will find the warmth of home and can share friendships and unforgettable moments. Thus, through the individual experience of each one of them, we’ll create an environment to reflect on the importance of the Camino and we will give it more strength every day.

 

The estimated total costs are 22.246,69 €, so we need any kind of help you can give us and we will be happy to welcome you in Betania, your next home on the Camino de Santiago.

“Betania” es un Centro Cultural para peregrinos y peregrinas del Camino de Santiago de Compostela llevado adelante por Elena, Pablo y Margarita, tres jóvenes voluntarios procedentes de Italia, Alemania y Bielorrusia. El proyecto está impulsado por la Asociación cultural Leonardino y de momento propone iniciativas como “Un café x un cuento ”, además de organizar eventos culturales para peregrinos y pamploneses llamados “europinchos”.

 

El Centro ocupa una parte del Convento de las Recoletas de Pamplona y consta de tres pisos, por un total de alrededor de 390 metros cuadrados. Gracias al trabajo hecho casi exclusivamente por personas voluntarias a partir del mes de mayo de 2021 y a pequeños donativos, acabamos de terminar la renovación del piso para el staff voluntario, que ya está viviendo ahí, pudiendo así alimentar el proyecto cada día.

 

En cuanto se terminen los trabajos de renovación, el Centro va a contar además con un punto de acogida e información sobre el Camino y con un albergue donde las personas que recorren el Camino francés se puedan sentir como en casa.

 

El próximo paso que queremos dar para alcanzar este objetivo es la renovación del piso de arriba, de aproximadamente 200 metros cuadrados, donde estimamos crear el albergue. Como se puede ver en el diseño adjunto, estará formado por 4 habitaciones, una cocina equipada, un comedor donde sentirse como en casa y 2 baños.

 

Antes que los voluntarios empiecen a pintar paredes y muebles, es fundamental contratar a un equipo experto para que realice algunos trabajos necesarios para que el resultado sea optimal, detallados en el presupuesto adjunto. Entre ellos: arreglos de paredes y aislamiento de las mismas, instalaciones de calefacción y electricidad en todo el piso y arreglo completo de los baños.

 

Este nuevo albergue en el corazón de Pamplona quiere ser un lugar donde los peregrinos del Camino encuentren el calor de un hogar y puedan compartir amistades y momentos inolvidables. Así, a través de la experiencia individual de cada uno de ellos, nos proponemos crear un ambiente donde reflexionar sobre la importancia del Camino y darle más fuerza cada día.

 

El total estimado para realizar los trabajos de renovación estructural mencionados es de 22.246,69 €, así que es bienvenida cualquier tipo de ayuda que nos podáis dar y estaremos felices de acogeros en Betania, vuestro próximo hogar a lo largo del Camino de Santiago.
