Help us up our game: A potential legal challenge and expert support to protect Edgware from inappropriate development.
While Save Our Edgware have made a huge impact with minimal professional support, we have reached a point where we need expert advice to help us take the campaign forward.
Our Goal:
We aim to raise an initial £25,000 to allow us to engage legal experts and other professionals to guide us and robustly represent our interests to public bodies or in court. This will ensure our voices are heard and our concerns are vigorously presented. As well as legal advice, we may need help from specialists like professional planners and traffic consultants.
Why We Need Your Help:
• Judicial Review of the Local Plan: The Local Plan allocates land for development on the site of Edgware Bus Station, Garage, and Deans Brook Nature Reserve. This land is included in Ballymore's larger development plan. To challenge this legally, an initial assessment would cost about £5,000. If a judicial review is pursued, the cost could range from £30,000 to £50,000.
• Challenging Ballymore's Planning Application: The prospect of a separate judicial review cannot be ruled out. If outline planning permission is granted, it will likely be followed by more detailed planning applications, making the process increasingly complex and technical.
Why It Matters:
Professional backing increases our chances of success and sends a strong message to councils and developers that they must respect residents' wishes. Your contribution will help us protect Edgware’s future. Any surplus funds will be donated to the Edgware Community Association to create a financial reserve, to stand up to future inappropriate development so that our communities are protected.
