Hi, I’m Mik LaVage
I’m a musician, composer, sound designer, and part-time filmmaker. For almost 20 years I’ve been connected with HFCA (Happy Football Cambodia Australia) — filming, supporting, and sharing the story of how a small soccer project in Phnom Penh has grown into a life-changing program for Cambodian street kids.
20 Years of HFCA
On November 16th 2025, HFCA celebrates 20 years of transforming lives through football.
What began in a Phnom Penh schoolyard has become a movement:
- Hundreds of kids trained, supported, and mentored.
- Former street kids now working as coaches and role models.
- Teams representing Cambodia at the Homeless World Cup.
- A thriving league presence and community projects that continue to change lives.
I’ve been alongside HFCA for 18 of these 20 years, camera in hand, capturing its story.
To celebrate 20 years we are hosting a tournament at the Morodok Techno Stadium in Phnom Penh. A youth tournament for Under 16's with 80 HFCA players (40 girls/40 boys) taking part with 40 from our Phnom Penh NGO partner Cambodian Children's Fund and 40 from our Siem Reap NGO partner Build your Future Today.
Many past participants of the HFCA program and the Homeless World Cup will be in attendance and it is a great opportunity for me to be there to document this event and capture reflections of the past 2 decades.
Why I’m Fundraising
With the 20th anniversary celebrations in Phnom Penh, I want to produce a short retrospective film — a showcase of HFCA’s journey from humble beginnings to the vibrant program it is today.
But this film isn’t just about looking back. It’s about building the future. HFCA relies on sponsorships and donations to survive. A powerful, shareable film can raise awareness, attract new sponsors, and help ensure the program continues for the next generation.
How Your Support Helps
I’m raising funds to cover:
- Filming and production costs
- Editing and post-production
- Sharing the finished film online and with HFCA partners
We have a story worth telling — and telling it well will also help HFCA remain financially sustainable by acting as an attraction for sponsors.
This is a grassroots project. Every dollar goes directly into making sure HFCA’s story is told and shared widely.
How You’ll Be Part of It
Your name in the credits of the finished film.
Updates and clips shared during the trip.
A finished film you can proudly share, knowing you helped make it possible.
About HFCA
Created in 2005, (HFCA) is a non -profit organization aimed at empowering underprivileged youth in Cambodia through the medium of the game of football.
HFCA runs weekly programs in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province, working exclusively with underprivileged youth aged 8 - 28 years from our partners (CCF) Cambodian Children’s Fund and BFT (Build Your Future Today). HFCA employs a proven United Nations supported ‘sport for development’ model.
Underprivileged young people get access to high quality training, team building and mobility opportunities. This supports wellbeing, mental health, self-esteem, and crucially provides pathways into further opportunities by developing soft skills for success in education and employment. HFCA is fully committed to The UN Convention Article 31 on the Rights of the Child whichstates “That every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts''.
