We are raising funds to help ease some of that pressure for the family, to give them breathing room while they focus on what matters most, Rémy. Any support, big or small, would make a real difference to this wonderful family. Thank you so much for helping in any way you can.
-Rémy' Story-
Rémy was diagnosed on the 29th of September with nephrotic syndrome, a serious and rare autoimmune disease that affects the kidneys and stops them from functioning properly. Only around 5 in 100,000 children worldwide develop this condition. There is currently no cure, only treatments that help manage and stabilise it.
When Rémy was diagnosed, it felt as though the world around his family collapsed. None of them had ever heard of nephrotic syndrome before, and doctors warned them to prepare for the worst. Confusion and fear filled the early days, and even now, when they try to explain his condition, most people have never heard of it. Nephrotic syndrome is rare, and far too few people know what it is , though they quickly learn how devastating it can be.
Rémy himself is a sweet, bright, cheerful little boy whose smile genuinely lights up a room. He’s sensitive, warm-hearted, and full of life. But behind that glowing smile is a battle no child should have to face. The condition causes his body to swell, leaves him exhausted, and puts his health at risk every single day.
Steroid treatment began soon after his diagnosis, but the results haven’t been what doctors had hoped for. His next hospital appointment will determine the next stage of treatment, and his family can only hope this new plan brings him closer to remission. Like any serious illness, every child responds differently, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already frightening journey.
There is a possibility that Rémy might grow out of this condition in his teenage years, but that’s not guaranteed. His family try not to dwell on the worst-case scenarios, yet they have to acknowledge them as parents.
Rémy has already spent long stretches in hospital, with multiple admissions and lengthy stays. His parents have had to take significant, and mostly unpaid time off work to stay by his side while also supporting their daughter. The emotional and financial strain of caring for a seriously ill child, keeping up with bills, and trying to maintain a stable home has been overwhelming. They’re doing everything they can, but the truth is that they’re struggling, and admitting that has been incredibly difficult.
Any support, no matter how small, would make a meaningful difference as they continue fighting for Rémy’s health and stability. Thank you, sincerely, for helping this family through the toughest chapter of their lives.
