Help Us Support Kennith Howe – Our Grandad, Our Hero
Donation protected
We’re reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our incredible grandfather, Kennith Michael Howe—known lovingly to us as Papa, Special K, or Rigsby. He’s a man who spent his entire life lifting others up. Now, he needs all of us to fight for him.
What Happened
On March 26th, Kennith was taken to Ipswich Hospital A&E after showing worrying signs of illness—confusion, dizziness, and slurred speech. Despite these clear warning signs of a stroke or serious infection, he was left in a chair for over 24 hours without proper care, right next to the nurses’ station. He was not given food, water, or even helped to the toilet.
On March 27th, he was scheduled for a CT scan, but he suddenly became unresponsive, collapsed with a fever over 40°C, and began suffering constant seizures. Doctors were forced to place him in an induced coma to try and save his life.
Two Weeks in a Coma
Kennith remained in that coma for two long weeks. Doctors tried to wake him several times, but early attempts were unsuccessful. It was a terrifying and uncertain time for our family—we didn’t know if we would ever see him awake again. Eventually, he began to stir, and after many agonising days, he finally woke up.
Where He Is Now
While we are so grateful that Papa has regained consciousness, the damage has been life-changing. He now suffers from severe brain damage and memory loss. He cannot remember his own name—and he doesn’t know any of ours either. He may be able to stand and move physically, but his understanding of the world is gone.
He is now completely vulnerable, unable to recognise danger or even understand what’s happening around him. The man who used to be the sharpest, funniest, most switched-on person in the room now needs constant supervision, comfort, and care.
Over the past six weeks, he’s been receiving alternative rehabilitation, but unfortunately, his progress hasn’t met the benchmarks the specialists hoped for. This rehab is now coming to an end, and unless we can find further funding, he will be left without the support he desperately needs to recover.
Why We’re Asking for Help
We’ve done everything we can as a family. We’ve exhausted all our resources—emotionally, physically, and financially. Asking for help like this is not in our nature—we are a proud and private family, but we’ve run out of options.
We are being told this may be as far as he’ll go. But if we accept that, Kennith will never get the chance to come back to us. We believe in him. We know the man he is. And we know that if the roles were reversed, he would fight for us—so we are fighting for him.
Who Kennith Is
Kennith is not just a patient—he is the heart and soul of our family, and a beloved figure in his community.
He is a devoted husband, father, grandad, and great-grandad who has given so much to others. He spent years running pubs across the East End of London, where he was more than a landlord—he was a friend, a mentor, and the life of every room he walked into.
He later became a Town Councillor for Saxmundham, where he gave his time to help local people and support numerous charity events. For over 30 years, he’s lived a life of service, joy, and connection.
Even in his 80s, he was unstoppable—zip-lining across the Las Vegas Strip and flying over the Grand Canyon just last year.
What Your Support Will Help With
We’re raising funds to help:
• Access continued neurological and cognitive rehabilitation
• Fund private therapy and treatment when public options run out
• Provide specialist equipment and home care support
• Allow close family to remain nearby with travel and accommodation costs
• Seek legal accountability for the initial medical neglect he suffered
Please Help Us Bring Papa Back
This is the hardest thing we’ve ever gone through. But we know there’s still hope. If you can donate, even a small amount, it will make a difference. And if you can’t, please share this page—you never know who might be able to help.
We love our Papa. He’s still in there. And with the right help, we believe we can bring him back.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The Howe Family ❤️
