Help us support College Point during Covid 19
Please help us to take care of College Point essential workers who are on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis, as well as struggling residents who are in need of food.
We are a group of College Point residents who had the idea of offering lunchtime meals for hardworking essential staff at College Point's three large nursing homes as a thank-you for their dedication during the Covid-19 crisis. As we prepared to launch our Go Fund Me campaign, the Monsignor at a College Point Catholic Church issued a plea for donations for the parish's food pantry. So many needy families have been relying on the St. Fidelis food pantry during the Covid crisis, that supplies have greatly dwindled. We also learned that the First Reformed Church, and Universal Church, in College Point needed support for their food pantries.
Now our Go Fund Me campaign has a dual purpose: to recognize essential workers in College Point who are on the frontlines of the Covid crisis, while helping College Point families who are in need of food.
All funds raised will be used to purchase food for College Point's food pantries, which are serving many more individuals as a result of Covid-19, and to express gratitude to essential workers in College Point who have continued serving our community during this crisis. We have provided thank-you lunches to the staff of Waterview Nursing Home, Woodcrest Nursing Home and Cliffside Nursing Home (where 16 residents have died from Covid-19), and to the post office, fire department, and sanitation department. In the coming week we will distribute lunches to the NYPD 109th precinct as well as to the MTA College Point depot.
This community outreach effort is organized by:
Jennifer Shannon, Cathy Shannon, James & Kathryn Cervino, and Margaret Loughlin
and is sponsored by:
A Better College Point ,Coastal Preservation Network , Margaret Loughlin Homes, Genaro's Pizzeria, and City Councilman Paul Vallone.
