At The Grove Media, we're raising money in support of Idia’s Community Kitchen, an incredible grassroots charity based in Hackney. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we recently volunteered there alongside some media partners — and the experience was nothing short of humbling.

Idia’s is a true lifeline for the local community. They provide hot meals, essential supplies, and a safe, welcoming space for anyone in need — from the elderly and the homeless to struggling families, asylum seekers, and school children. No one is turned away. No problem is too small.

During our visit, we helped cook (yes, about 500 sausages!), clean, organise stock, and distribute food. But our contribution was just a small part of what Aina and her team of superstar volunteers do every single day. Their dedication is inspiring.

Despite working out of a run-down, council-rented space with leaky ceilings and countless challenges, the energy inside is nothing short of extraordinary. And they’re not stopping there. Their next big goal? Launching an after-school cookery club for local children — a safe place to learn, eat, and feel supported. To do that, they need new ovens, kitchen supplies, and urgent repairs to their facilities.
