For over four years we have been actively involved in a Court Appeal opposing the proposed expansion of the Nucrush Oxenford Quarry.
This appeal seeks to uphold the Gold Coast City Council’s refusal of Nucrush’s quarry expansion and century-long development application, originally decided in November 2021.
What began as a planning decision has now become a long, complex legal battle. We have spent years attending pre-hearing court sessions, reviewing hundreds of documents, expert witness reports, and dedicating countless unpaid hours to preparing our case.
We are not a corporation or a government body ... We are local residents.
While this may be “business as usual” for Nucrush and Council, for us it is deeply personal.
This development directly affects our homes, our families’ health, and our quality of life. We are doing everything we can to represent the interests of the local community and ensure these impacts are properly considered by the Court.
We are now reaching the final stage — the Court hearing itself.
To present our case properly and fairly, we urgently need assistance with significant costs, including:
- Preparing and printing extensive court materials
- Preparing evidence relating to blasting impacts, noise, dust, visual amenity, wildlife and traffic
- Legal costs
- Travel and accommodation costs for weeks of court attendance in Brisbane
The printing costs alone will be substantial due to the immense volume of material required.
The generous funds donated by residents at the outset of this process four years ago have now been fully exhausted. Since then, we have been self-funding the appeal for some time, unfortunately we can no longer continue without community support.
Many residents have asked how they can help. There are several meaningful ways to show your support:
- Contact Gold Coast City Council and clearly express that you do not support the quarry expanding or continuing to operate in its current or proposed form.
- Attend the Court Hearing when the time comes — community presence matters!
- Share your concerns on our Community Facebook Page to help amplify local voices.
- Donate to our GoFundMe to help cover the costs to fight this appeal in court.
Any contribution will help ensure the community’s voice is properly heard.
