Hello neighbors! Your local neighborhood watch captains here! It is no secret that we have experienced severe mailbox theft over the course of the past year. In our neighborhood watch meetings, we have been discussing actionable steps that we can take to secure our mailboxes. The team has brainstormed over the course of several months and has tested out a few ideas as well. The most effective mailbox theft deterrent that we have found is through the installation of both cameras and signage at mailboxes. We have surveyed our neighborhood and found that we have a total of five (5) mailboxes. We are canvassing the neighborhood for donations that will go toward the purchase of four (4) cameras (we currently have one in rotation already) and five signs to be mounted at or near each mailbox. We have had great success in cracking down on mailbox theft using these tools. The total cost of this project is $323, which breaks down to $2.11 per household as we have 153 homes within our community. If everyone can pitch in, we will use the funds to purchase and install cameras and signage at each mailbox within our community.
