My wife and I have spent the last 16 and a half years building our life together in Quito, Ecuador. She is the love of my life. In September 2025, I lost my job of ten years when my employer chose not to renew my contract. I searched tirelessly for work, but every application was ignored or rejected. With no other options, my parents in rural Minnesota offered us a place to stay while we tried to rebuild.

I was fortunate to find a job here, but it pays only a fraction of what I earned in Ecuador. Every dollar I make now goes toward paying off debts I accumulated over those years, leaving us with nothing left for unexpected or urgent expenses.

My wife, who is not a U.S. national, was granted a 180-day B-2 visa to stay in the United States—but that time is quickly running out. We are now facing the very real possibility of being separated if we cannot afford the immigration fees required for her to apply for Adjustment of Status. The thought of this possible separation fills us with anguish each day that passes. It would be something truly horrible.

The combined costs for filing the necessary immigration forms, medical exams, and supporting documents are far beyond what we can manage right now. With my entire income going toward debt repayment, we simply cannot afford these fees on our own.
