I am reaching out for help as my girlfriend and I work to leave toxic households and start a new chapter together. Right now, we’re trying to raise enough for first, last, and security deposit so we can finally move into a safe apartment of our own.
Having an apartment would mean so much to us. It would give us the chance to heal from family trauma, set healthy boundaries, and stop the cycle of emotional abuse. Most importantly, it would let us start building our lives together—dreaming about starting a family in a space that feels safe and supportive.
I have helped to crowdfund for many individuals in our community who needed support, and at 20 years old, while I was still in undergrad, I helped launch a non-profit that gives back to families in need. I helped raise thousands of dollars for programs like retreats for burnt out women, and a free store that I would often operate myself. It was my sole source of income at the time, and I used my high school savings to support myself, working early mornings until late at night to make a difference. I have also been a civil servant for many years, working full-time for child protective services. Using my savings to support myself has put me into debt, which makes it very difficult to save money now. I am also a full-time student getting my MSW while still working as a social worker full-time. I am open to working on the side, like babysitting for extra cash, but it has been difficult to find clients. My girlfriend has also been unemployed for 5 months after being wrongfully and discriminatorily fired, which has made our situation even more challenging. It’s not easy for me to ask for help—I’ve always tried to be the one giving it. But now, I’m in a place where I need that help in return, and it took a lot for me to make this fundraiser.
We have both faced a lot of challenges growing up, and it’s been hard to imagine a future where we feel secure and free from the pain of our past. This move would be the first real step toward healing and creating a loving environment for ourselves and, hopefully, our future together.
I am so grateful for any support, whether you’re able to donate or simply share our story with others. Thank you for helping us take this important step toward a better future. Your kindness means the world to us.
