Help Us Start a Community Garden

Donation protected
Hello! The tenant organization of an apartment building in Crown Heights, Brooklyn is raising money to restore the gardens in the front yard and abandoned courtyard.

Due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, access to green space is limited for New Yorkers and stress levels are especially high. It is proven that spending time outdoors and in natural environments can improve a person’s mental and physical health. Gardens also absorb air pollution, creating healthier air to breathe and combating global warming. Reconstructing our shared outdoor spaces has a two fold purpose: 1) fostering community and 2) creating a beautiful, relaxing and therapeutic environment to improve the physical and mental health for the tenants, majority of whom are essential workers, unemployed, elderly and/or children.

This idea has been proposed before but building management has failed to act so we have decided to do it ourselves. As a result, we need financial support to make this vision a reality. We have set the initial goal at 3,000 dollars and are hoping this will cover the costs of purchasing flowers, soil, shrubs, gardening tools, benches and seeds as well as covering the gofundme fees.

Thanks so much for your support!
