Free Food Harlem is a 501c3 nonprofit that distributes fresh and hot meals for over 24,000 hungry people each year.

We’re raising $10,000 which will go towards our commercial kitchen rental, supplemental ingredients and supplies for our sit down meal.

Our whole team is volunteer-based and we used mostly donated ingredients to create an experience of love and dignity with maximum efficiency. We still do have costs, including our commercial kitchen space, supplemental ingredients, gas for transport and extras to make our space and meals clean, beautiful and overflowing with love.

We currently serve over 500 meals a week in Harlem, NY to the homeless and anyone in the community in need of a nourishing meal. Our meals are different from a traditional soup kitchen or pantry – we serve guests a free restaurant-style meal, where they can come and experience the dignity of being served. We put cloth tablecloths on the tables, vases with fresh flowers, clothes for giveaway elegantly arranged near the entrance, and as much food, fresh juice and water as our guests want.

Our meals are cooked from fresh farm produce and other donated ingredients and prepared by a chef and volunteer team who skillfully and lovingly cook each element of the meal. The care is felt in the food, as our guests come from all over NYC to dine each week at our free restaurant and receive the nourishment – physical and emotional, from the meals.

Our volunteers are nourished by the whole experience as well, and as our guests fill up, many of them have asked us to volunteer and help us so we can continue to serve our meals and fill others. We have formerly incarcerated volunteers and interns who participate with us each week to cook the meals, gaining culinary skills while they help serve the community.

We have grown from a small group serving burritos on the streets of Harlem to a full-scale operation feeding 500+ meals a week in a sit-down setting. We need your support to sustain current operations and expand to feed more people love and dignity.
