Help Us Send Kids to School in Africa
Donation protected
Many kids in the slums in African countries go to low-quality schools and do not have the resources to get a proper education. They can't write what their teachers are saying because they have no pens or notebooks to write on, they can't bring any supplies to school because the kids have no school bag, they are skinny because they don't have any food to eat.
We are three middle school kids (Pablo, age 14yrs; Milo, age 14yrs and Zachary, age 14 yrs) at the Sotogrande International School, Spain (SIS) who have carefully chosen this as our school community project. The inspiration for this passion project comes from Zachary's time growing up in Lagos, Nigeria - watching children walk to distant public schools with ill-fitting clothes, without shoes and bags. At the same time, he and his friends enjoyed relative comfort. Many still are compelled to trade before school starts, hawking food, water and snacks on the streets to survive.
The concept of our project is just to make it easier for 100 local kids to get to school keep their school books and learning materials in place. Also, we would prefer to provide a carton of local favorite instant noodles along with the supplies. The supplies we will be buying will consist of a school bag, notebooks, pencil cases and in those pencil cases will be pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners and a math set, all basic things they may need for school at a projected cost of Nigerian Naira N16,500 ($29, €27.50) per child. We have identified three schools in Ajah, Sangotedo and Jakande (Lekki peninsula) and will work with the school administrators to identify 100 children most in need. On February 14, 2022, we shall organize a donation day to give the supplies to the beneficiaries directly.
All donations will be managed by and beneficiaries recorded and reported to our SIS Project Advisor.
Background: Most families in Nigeria (West Africa) survive on incomes of less than $1 (€0.88) day. Food, shelter and security are priorities and take up most of their income. Education is considered important and a ticket to a better life, but by default a lower priority. Education is free in public schools, but there is no support from the government for any items required, including books and supplies. Many children are forced to go to school without pens, pencils, and books and walk miles to school without shoes on, in rooms without windows, desks, and chairs!
Do for one what you wish you could do for all.
We appeal to you to help us bring smiles to the faces of some deserving children.
Thank you!
