Help Us Send Jillian to Type 1 Camp

Donation protected
This light of my life is the only one in her grade with Type 1 Diabetes, an autoimmune disease that causes the pancreas to stop producing the insulin needed to regulate blood sugar and send energy to the body.

Sucks, right? But she handles it like a trooper, first with daily injections and now with the frequent bee sting feeling of insulin pump site changes and the glucose monitor that helps us treat blood sugar highs  (which feel gross) and lows (which feel grosser).

If you know her, you know she doesn't dwell on it in public. But it's hard to feel gross and it's hard to be different--especially in 7th grade.

I can't know what it feels like to be her--and even worse, I can't fix it, which is a pretty gross feeling for any parent.

But what I can do is send her to Clara Barton Diabetes Camp for her 13th birthday (July 21st) and let her be a teenager, sleeping over without her mom, with kids and counselors who TOTALLY get it, because they're all Type 1 and they're all evidence that life goes on--and can mean swimming and horseback riding and giggles without worry.

It would mean the world to me to be able to give her this gift--and unfortunately, I can't manage it alone this year. We didn't see this coming, so we didn't plan for it in any way.

If you can donate any (tax-deductable!) amount by July 1, we would be so grateful. Parents of campers often say the experience is life-affirming and transformative--and girlfriend has HUGE goals for the future, including a mapped out high school and college path of study to build a sustainable farm.

Because she's a #diabadass like that.
