Trans household in need of $4000 to help pay off back rent owed by an ex-roommate to keep our apartment and re-sign our lease.

A few months ago, our house had to ask our roommate to move out after treating us terribly for several months. They also decided to withhold their rent and left us with unpaid rent and late fees totaling up $4000

Due to them moving out without paying this amount or working out a payment plan with the landlord, our landlord is now refusing to re-sign our lease until it is paid off, making their debt our debt. On our current salary, and with one of our roommates being disabled and out of work, we can't afford to pay for their mistake. While we don't think we should, we are now responsible due to being on the lease.

We are exhausted with having to move because of others' inability to honor their words and not taking responsibility for their actions, which has now caused us to seek assistance from the community. We are native NYers trying to stay in our home city, and nightlife organizers trying to maintain our work.
