I am a single father of two wonderful kids, working hard to give them the best life I can. Recently, I was given the opportunity to purchase a home for us—a dream I’ve had for years. To make this happen, I need to pay down some credit card debt so I can qualify for a down payment assistance program. Without this help, I’ll have to forfeit the deal I’ve made with the home seller and their agent, and my kids and I will miss out on the chance to finally have a place to call our own.

Having a home of our own would mean everything to my family. Right now, we live in subsidized housing, and if my income goes above a certain limit, we could lose our apartment. Each unit in our complex is tied to the program, so there’s no guarantee we’d have a place to stay if we had to move. Owning a home would take away that fear and give my children the space they need as they grow. It would also allow me to focus on advancing my career and provide a forever home for my girls—a place they can always return to.
