The Bull and Butcher Pub has been saved!
Donation protected
UPDATE 24/04/2025; No current donations needed!
Sincere thanks to everyone who has donated and supported the project. Through your donations we have been able to help to save the Bull and Butcher and it has now re-opened with new owners !
What did we spend the donations on ?
Stage 1 : We used £240 of the funds donated to the campaign to become a member of Plunkett Foundation to guide us on our journey and to become a Community Benefit Society.
We used £310 of the funds donated to officially became The Akeley Community Society Ltd in November 2024.
Stage 2 We used £2,000 of our funds donated to carry out a full building survey, valuation and viability study with DABRO and Associates. It enabled us to have a detailed report on everything in the building to see if it could be run as a Business. We were required to have this as it gave us a realistic valuation of the property and also gave us some figures for our Business plan. As we are a Community Society and a member of the Plunkett Foundation we were kindly given a big discount on the normal costs !
Pam and Shane ( the new owners) then contacted us and told us they were interested in buying the pub. It was a difficult process for them , full of problems and at one stage it looked like it wouldn't be possible , but finally in March they managed to secure the pub and move in !
At present, we have just under £50 left after paying fees and we would like to use that money to continue as a Business. We would not have been able to get the pub re-opened again if it wasn't for the generous support and help from everyone in the community. We are extremely grateful. In future we would like to go on to support local projects and raise money where needed.
