We’re Jasmine and Jon, and we help run a small, family-owned taco truck in North Austin called Del’s Tacos & More, owned by my in-laws. Our truck is powered by homemade recipes, early mornings, and the belief that good food brings people together.

But lately, it’s been a fight just to stay open.

After nearly three years at our main location, we were suddenly told we had just one week to leave. That spot wasn’t just a place to park — it felt like home. We built real relationships with our regulars, and losing it hit us hard — emotionally and financially.

Our time there came to an unexpected end in March, and we were out of work for almost two full months trying to figure out our next move. We’ve now been working at our new location for about three months, doing everything we can to rebuild — but business has been slow. We’re not getting the same steady traffic, and we’re simply not making enough to stay afloat.

My in-laws have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the business going. They had just picked up a brand new trailer — a decision made in good faith — the day before everything changed.

My husband and I continue showing up every day to help run the truck — often without full pay — because we believe in what this business means to our family and our community. But with rising supply costs, lost income, and a trailer payment behind schedule, we’re at a breaking point.

The truth is: we’re all behind on bills. We’ve tried to stay strong and push through, but it’s getting harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Some days it feels like giving up might be the only option — but we’re not ready to quit. We believe in what this little truck represents — not just for us, but for our kids and our community.
