My family and I have called our house home for the past 11 years. It’s where we’ve built our lives together—my husband Glenn, our children Damian and Delanee, and myself. We’ve faced a lot of challenges, from losing jobs due to health issues and layoffs, to overcoming addiction and working hard to rebuild our lives. Through it all, our home has been our safe place and the center of our family’s memories. Delanee, who is 12, especially doesn’t want to leave the only home she’s ever known. We love our neighborhood and the community we’ve become a part of.
In 2023, my mother-in-law Susan moved in with us to help out. She made a big difference by paying her share of the bills and supporting us when I couldn’t work. When she became ill in late 2024, I became her caregiver. I was about to start receiving some income for caring for her, but she passed away unexpectedly in December. Losing her was not only an emotional blow, but it also left us without the financial help she provided, making our situation even more difficult.
Earlier this year, Glenn had to have surgery and was off work for almost three months without pay because he hadn’t been at his job for a full year yet. This put even more strain on our finances and made it even harder to keep up with our bills and mortgage.
Recently, things have become overwhelming. We’re behind on our mortgage and the threat of foreclosure is real. We haven’t received a final notice yet, but we know it could come at any time. On top of that, we’re struggling to afford groceries, personal hygiene items, and all of our bills are behind. Our home is also in need of repairs, inside and out, but we simply can’t afford to fix anything right now. Earlier this year, we received some assistance because we’re considered low income, but it hasn’t been enough to get us back on our feet.
We’re asking for help to keep our family together in our home and to cover the basic necessities we need to get by. Any support will go directly toward catching up on our mortgage, paying overdue bills, and making sure we have food and essentials. We’re grateful for any help and hope to one day pay it forward to others in need. Glenn decided to go to Midwest Technical Institute and graduated from the Welding and Pipe Fitting program in August 2024. He has a good job now at Selvaggio Steel a union job that he loves. When he first graduated and started working everything was going great.
