The American Heartland Railroad Society is Proud to Announce Our First Acquisition!

We are excited to share some incredible news—The American Heartland Railroad Society (501(c)3 Non Profit) has acquired our first piece of equipment: KLRX 475097, formerly MILW 101567! This Type C113 covered hopper was originally built in August 1975 by Pullman-Standard in Butler, Pennsylvania for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (commonly known as the Milwaukee Road).

This 4750 cubic foot car was part of a 196-car order, marking the final new covered hoppers ever acquired by the Milwaukee Road. A true piece of American railroading history!

The Road to Preservation

The journey to save KLRX 475097 has been nothing short of miraculous. Initially, the car had been sent to a scrap facility in Kansas City, KS. However, thanks to the incredible generosity of KBX Logistics, this piece of history was saved at the last possible moment. Their efforts over a four-day period played a key role in making this donation possible.

But Our Work is Just Beginning

While the car is safe, it is currently still sitting at the scrap facility in Kansas City, awaiting transport. To move KLRX 475097 and cover the associated costs of preservation, we need your help. We are calling on our supporters and railroad enthusiasts alike to contribute to this cause. Every donation will help us pay for transportation, restoration, and the ongoing preservation efforts needed to ensure this iconic car is saved for future generations to enjoy.
