My name is Gaebreal, and my wife and I have a 5-year-old daughter, Evelyn, who was born with spina bifida.
We received disability payments starting from day one, and we've been through more in our 5 years with Evelyn than most people will in their whole life. Recently, we received a letter from SSI stating that we have been “overpaid” (which was an initial letter 2 years ago. That’s a whole thing in itself we can explain later), and we need to pay back the money we were “overpaid.”
This led to us immediately losing our disability payments and having to pay back $200/month for 2 years and 8 months before we can receive disability payments again. This essentially has cost us ~$700/month.
I’m asking for help to pay this debt off that the government has so politely provided us, that way we don’t have to struggle.
We are a family of 5, and Evelyn isn’t the only child we have, but she has the most needs from her disability, and losing this money for close to 3 years will certainly hurt us when it comes to doctor’s appointments, trips to and from, and getting special needed items for her such as shoes and diapers. Anything helps.
Thank you.
