Hello! I’m Matthias, the project manager of this reforestation initiative, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of the environmental NGO "Ecological Vision for Shkodra Region" (EVSR).

In the heart of Albania’s breathtaking northern mountains, lies the Shala Valley— which is home to ancient forests, canyons, and rare wildlife like the golden eagle, bears and lynx. But decades of illegal logging and wildfires have left parts of this landscape bare and eroded, unable to recover on their own.

This winter planting season, our team aims to replant 10,000 native trees — chestnut, walnut, hazelnut, etc. — across 6 hectares of degraded forest. Every €5 helps us plant a tree, restore soils, and bring biodiversity back to life.

We already have written permission from the Shala Valley Natural Park administration and land owners, ensuring the reforested plots are protected from any future deforestation.

Unfortunatelly, erosion has advanced so far, that natural regeneration is no longer possible without active replanting — we need to give nature a helping push.

EVSR is a young, independent NGO, operating for only three years, which makes it challenging to compete with large international organizations for funding. Yet, we’ve already completed one successful tree-planting project last winter, where the local community helped restore mountain pine woodlands in Northern Albania.

Your contribution will directly fund tree seedlings, professional care, and local engagement — helping us protect both people and nature in one of Albania’s most stunning valleys.

Based on our estimates, the restored forest will absorb around 12 tonnes of CO₂ per year after 5 years, about 29 tonnes per year after 10 years, and up to 52 tonnes per year after 50 years — helping the Shala Valley become a lasting carbon sink for generations to come.
