Help Us Replace our 60-Year-Old HVAC System
Tax deductible
Lilac Services for the Blind's main building in Spokane is in sore need of a new HVAC system. Where most systems can last up to 25 years, our current one is over 60 years old.
The gas-fired boiler and hydronic piping system is still able to push out heat through some of the building. However, the cooling portion no longer functions. Living in an area that reaches over 100 degrees in the summer makes this a serious hazard not only to our staff, but our clients as well. Especially since a majority of our clientele are older and have medical conditions that make them more susceptible to heat-related illnesses like heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
The building itself also has no windows that open to allow any airflow. This exacerbates the poor indoor air quality further. By replacing the old system with a more efficient one, we will enhance air circulation, reduce allergens, and improve humidity control. This will create a healthier environment for people with visual impairments, elderly individuals, and others who rely on our facility for services and events.
We are now looking to replace our HVAC system with individual gas-fired furnaces and air-cooled condensing units. We have received a quote for $298,595 (before tax) that covers most of the work necessary for this project. It is a large sum, but we believe that with grants, fundraisers, and donors like you, we will be able to reach this goal!
Thank you for supporting us and our mission to provide people who are blind or have low vision with the training and adaptive devices needed to restore, maintain, or increase their independence and quality of life!
