We believe music should be for everyone, not just the people who can afford it.

Right now in our community, there are children and adults who would love to learn an instrument but simply can’t. Not because they don’t have the interest or ability, but because lessons, instruments and opportunities cost money.

We’re changing that.

We’re Crofton Music Trust, a small community music charity based in Fitzwilliam, West Yorkshire. We provide free access to brass instruments, rehearsals and support so it’s open to anyone who wants to be part of it. Crofton Music Trust is the working name of Crofton Training Band (Registered Charity 1214104)

We’re also working to open doors that don’t always feel open.

Brass banding hasn’t always been the most inclusive space, especially for people with additional needs. We want to change that and build something that feels genuinely welcoming to everyone.

For some of our members, this is the only chance they have to take part in music.

Music can open doors. It builds confidence, creates a sense of identity, and gives people something to belong to. For some, it can shape education, careers and their future.

But it’s not always just about money.

It’s confidence. Feeling like you’d fit in. Having a space that feels welcoming and accessible.

That’s what we’re building. A place where people can come along, give it a go, and feel part of something.

At the same time, we’re helping keep something important alive in our area. Brass bands have a long history here, but fewer young people are coming through. Without new players, that tradition slowly fades.

Running this does come with real costs. Rehearsal space, teaching, instruments, and the time it takes to organise and support everything behind the scenes.

At the moment, a lot of it is held together through funding, support from others, and a lot of unpaid time.

We’re raising money to help keep this going and to grow it so more people can take part.
