We just got that type of news that sends you to your knees!

In March 2025, our vibrant 2000sqm sanctuary for creatives is being demolished to make way for development.

Against all odds, we’ve secured a new building—YUSSSS!!!

However, the challenges ahead are immense.

We are The Nest Creative Space—an independent, artist-run family, built with heart, facilitating 90 artists with studios, a gallery, a photographic studio, workshop and event spaces. We occupy a 2,000 square meter building, offering a unique and affordable sanctuary for artists and the wider community to create, make, collaborate and thrive.

For 11 years, The Nest has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s creative community, led by artists and co-founders Melissa Gilbert and Daniel Bourne. Through their vision, dedication and cultural leadership, this space has flourished into a haven for independent creatives, nurturing artistic talent and innovation.

We need your help to take on the astronomical task of relocating this vibrant community.

The Nest is more than just a maker space—it’s a cultural heirloom, a vital sanctuary for independent artists who call it home and a place for the wider community to gather. In a time where creative spaces in Sydney are disappearing at an alarming rate, together, with your support, we can safeguard this creative hub and ensure it remains a beacon of artistic energy for years to come.

What Does Your Contribution Support?

As we embark on this monumental move, your donations will go directly towards packing up our entire 2,000 square meter space, covering transportation costs and refurbishing the new location with a bespoke fit out for our creatives. This includes everything from relocation, planning, designing, painting and building functional workspaces that will allow The Nest to continue flourishing in its new home.

Every dollar you contribute will go towards recreating the magic of The Nest in its new location—our new home, secured against all odds!

Your name will be enshrined into a permanent artwork featuring all the names of generous people, like you who have supported the move.

This artwork will be made by the Nest collective and displayed within the communal area of our new space.

We will keep our “Custodians of Culture” up to date with what we have used your contribution for and how we are tracking with the build and relocation.
