Our Story: From Gaza to Cairo – A Journey of Survival
For generations, our family home in Gaza was a symbol of resilience. It sheltered us through countless hardships, holding memories of birthdays, holidays, and quiet moments of peace. Since arriving in Cairo, we’ve faced a new battle: surviving the crushing cost of renting. Rent here is 4 times higher than Gaza’s, draining our savings and leaving us in constant fear of eviction. Every month, we scramble to pay landlords, knowing that one missed payment could leave us homeless. Stability feels like a distant dream—one we’re determined to reclaim.
Why We Need Your Help
After months of research and consultations, we’ve learned that buying a modest apartment in Cairo costs $60,000—the average price for a safe, basic home in the city. This amount is staggering for a family rebuilding from zero, but it’s our only path to:
- Permanent Safety: No more fleeing, no more fear of displacement.
- Healing: A place where my family can finally process the trauma of losing our home, our community, and our life in Gaza.
- Hope: A foundation to rebuild our futures, pursue education, work, and contribute to our new community.
Owning a home means freedom—from the anxiety of rent hikes, from the dread of a landlord’s knock, and from the uncertainty that has haunted us since the war.
This was our bedroom in Gaza. War destroyed these walls.
