Hi, my name is Camara Faria. I am writing this on behalf of my mother (Althea) and her sisters, who own the family home my mom lives in. In January 2025, while my mom was visiting family for Christmas, our family home was flooded due to leaking pipes. There is severe water damage on all levels of the house and a lot of the damage is irreparable.

This house was purchased by my grandparents in the 1970s. They immigrated from Jamaica and worked tirelessly to save enough money to buy this house and make sure my mother and her three sisters had a house to grow up in despite having less than a high school degree. This house was made available by them to countless family members in times of need, including myself. Though my grandparents have passed on, their legacy has continued. My mom and her sisters have continued to allow relatives to use our house as a means to get on their feet during hard times.

We are devastated by what has happened. My mother is now without a stable home as the house is now uninhabitable. Her inventory for her business and most of her belongings are unsalvageable, including priceless items such as photographs and family memorabilia from when my brothers and I were kids.

We are asking for donations in any amount to go to salvaging what is left of the house and helping my mom get back on her feet. My mom goes above and beyond for our family. All those that she comes in contact with can speak to the kindness she embodies, and it is my hope that with this fundraiser, all of the kindness she has put into the world will return to her tenfold.
