Danial is the kind of neighbour everyone hopes to have: capable, wise, and quietly resilient through life’s toughest seasons. Over the years, she’s weathered more than her share of storms—always finding a way forward with strength and dignity. Now, as her friends and neighbours, we want to help ensure her living conditions match the same strength she’s shown time and again.

Several years ago, Danial’s home sustained serious water damage when a neighbouring roof—attached to her own—failed and caused flooding throughout her house. The water ruined her kitchen and much of the interior, including insulation and drywall. When her roof also became compromised, Danial discovered that insurance wouldn’t cover the damage due to a technicality related to how the roofs were joined. She and her adult son paid out of pocket to replace it—a major expense that understandably delayed the interior repairs.

Then, two years ago, Danial faced an unimaginable loss when her son passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm. Since then, she’s carried on living alone in a home still bearing the scars of that flooding—kitchen only partially functional, upstairs nearly uninhabitable due to lack of insulation, and the only bathroom located in a space that becomes dangerously hot in the summer and near freezing in the winter. Add to that the reality that Danial is awaiting double knee replacement surgery while on long-term disability, and the risk of injury navigating stairs and limited accessibility becomes deeply concerning.

Danial has never asked for help. But we see the situation, and we believe she deserves a safe, functional, and dignified home—one that reflects the same care and strength she’s extended to others.
