My husband was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure in July 2024. Since then, our lives have changed dramatically. A social worker helped him get on disability, but despite our best efforts, we struggled to keep up with bills and eventually lost our home. We had to move back to Breaux Bridge, LA, into a house we had rented to family for 15 years, hoping they would one day purchase it. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and the house was left with significant damage both inside and out, including possible mold from a leak that needs urgent repair.
We are currently living in a small camper while we try to make the house livable again. My husband is on the transplant list, but we are still waiting for a match. Recently, he spent nine days in the hospital with coronavirus, which made his breathing difficult and affected his dialysis treatments. Thankfully, he is home now and doing better, but he is not fully recovered. I have a job, but I’ve missed a lot of work to care for him during these difficult times.
The funds raised will go toward removing or trimming overgrown trees, repairing the damage to our home, replacing walls, and checking for mold. If the house is beyond repair, we hope to use the funds to put a down payment on a new or used mobile home so we can have a safe place to live and space for all of my husband’s medical supplies for dialysis. If you can find it in your heart to help in any way possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Your support will help us rebuild and give my husband the safe home he needs for his recovery.
