On March 8th, 2026, our lives changed in an instant when our beloved 1950s dream home was destroyed by fire. Thanks to the quick response of the Jacksonville Fire Department, we made it out safely, but we lost nearly everything we had built over 38 years.

Our home sat on two peaceful acres where we raised our miniature horses, who are not just animals to us, but family. Many of them have been with us for years, tied to memories of our daughter growing up, showing them in 4H, and building a life around them.

In the immediate aftermath of the fire, our horses were taken off the property for temporary care while everything was still unfolding. Right now, we are working to have them safely returned so they can be placed in secure homes we have already arranged.

As retirees in our seventies, starting over feels overwhelming. I am a retired Duval County School teacher of 36 years, and my husband is a retired graphic artist. We have always worked hard, lived modestly, and given back to our community. Asking for help is not something we ever imagined.
