Home endangered by contractor mistakes, dishonesty
I’m asking for help to prevent housing insecurity for my family.
My dad is in recovery from a serious illness. For safety and quality of life, it suits us all for my parents to live with me. It’s my honor to be here for them, as they have always been for me.
Last year, I bought a promising property that would eliminate stairs, scale down square footage and yard size; their own space with more manageable maintenance. I planned to have the house renovated for them and finish a space for myself in another building on site.
Unfortunately, the contractor we trusted turned out to lack both competency and honesty. Multiple mistakes and misappropriations cost me over $50,000. The property is still not done, and he walked off the job months ago.
Through volunteers from their church, we’ve gotten mom and dad’s house almost done now—after months of living without basic facilities.
My space is not livable just yet, and work has been stalled for months. My parents’ house is one bedroom, so there’s not room for me long term. I’ve spent 9 months in a modest camper loaned to me, which I’m beyond grateful for.
In the midst of all this, I’m still working my “day job” in the call center full time, while I build my real estate business. If you’ve known me for a while, you know I’m not afraid to work 2 or 3 jobs at a time.
But the loss of over $50,000 has been devastating.
It’s stolen my ability to provide for my parents, myself, and my 2 rock stars in college.
I have to face the need for help. Having to move again, after everything we’ve been through with this property, would be so detrimental to my parents’ health and well-being. We’d be so grateful for any help you’d like to give.
