When Brooklyn and I had just gotten engaged, we became close friends with a family that was in the middle of a lengthy foster care to adoption story. They brought us alongside them and we were given a front row seat to the beauty-- and difficulties-- of adoption. We decided early on in our marriage that someday, we wanted to invite a child into our home in a similar way.

Two bio kids later, we feel we are ready. Our hearts are ready, our kids are ready, and our home is ready... but our bank account isn't. After meeting with multiple people who have adopted, attending informational sessions, and conducting our own online research, we've discovered that the magic number is $30,000-- about $10,000 for initial fees, another $15,000 due at placement, and $5000 for attorney fees afterwards. For reference, that is more than half of our yearly income before taxes.

As of October 15th, we have officially been accepted into an adoption program with Lutheran Family Services here in Omaha, so we're raedy to start raising the money we need.
